Which this isn't ..........

Since this is obviously a subject that interests you, I don't know if you saw it back then, but I posted this in 2014 during an exchange with Gordon.

>>> "My uncle Christopher (Bunny) Currant was a Hurricane pilot in WW11. Some years ago the Hurricane he flew was discovered abandoned in Mumbai in India. It is known to be very same one he flew from its registration number. It has now been restored and is for sale. If you happen to have a spare £2,500,000 (+VAT) lying around, it could be yours!" <<<

Shortly after I posted this Christopher, who was well into his nineties, died. By then he really was one of the last of the "few". One of the last things he did was to sit in the cockpit of his restored Hurricane. At his memorial they showed a video of him sitting there quite literally with tears in his eyes.

At the same memorial the new owner did a low altitude fly past. What an incredible sound!! It makes me quiver even now.

No David, I hadn't seen that, but what an amazing and moving story. I live near Old Warden and have photographed the Sea Hurricane many times. The sound is absolutely wonderful and I never tire of watching and hearing it. Of course, my reference to the spitfire was deliberate and perhaps my poor attempt at subtle humour.

Duh! My poor comprehension.

Unidentified flying joke. Straight over the top of my head ............

Including pilotless flight technology! Wow.

Joking aside, it's great! I presume for the falling in flames you used one of the 3D models that abound .......

Hmmmm ......... out of four contestants so far, three have set fire to it ....... and two of those three have brought it tumbling from the sky ..........

What does this tell us?

Im so pleased I put that disclaimer in. I was hoping no one would notice the absent pilot....

Yes, I found a model on a free site. Way too much effort to make it, although I did make the propellers to use on the original image.

I did add him to my second image. But truth to tell it's barely noticeable. He is so small and dark that all you see is a glimmer of orange life vest.

Good work from everyone again

Anna - glad to see you got the propeller to spin. Good go at air-to-air photography. Gun cowling not replaced.
David - a sport parachute during WWII?
Loyd - love the animation
Ben - aaaaah yes, the four-engined Spitfire Mk 93c

Really good work, Gordon. The intro was a bit fast moving though, I had trouble reading it.

Thanks Michael. Just for you I made the intro a little longer and tweaked the shadow of the taxying Spitfire.

BTW the engine sound track is a Rolls Royce Merlin, arguably the greatest aero engine ever developed.

I wouldn't know.

I thought sport chutes all had rectangular canopies. I thought the classic circular white dome was military from past years.

........ limit of my knowledge.

Re: Challenge 807: The model hurricane
Hi Gordon

Lovely animation!

The same uncle, who I mentioned earlier on, once told me that if there was one thing all the British pilots wanted it was a Polish wingman. He said they were marvellous flyers and absolutely fearless!

Here's a a little bit about the story I exchanged with Nick.

A Polish pilot was something to be feared by the Luftwaffe. A Polish pilot with a Mosquto .......

Re: Challenge 807: The model hurricane
Nice work everyone

I have had some glitches, and unfortunately after nearly two days of intense concentration, I don't feel like starting from scratch again. I committed the cardinal sin of "merging visible" saving and closing Photoshop.

NB My late father flew the Mosquito (among other planes) when he was in the Fleet Air Arm (test pilot) during WW2. Upon being asked what his favourite plane was, he answered "the Mosquito!"
