Contest 59: I've got a little Liszt
He may have been one of the greats of romantic composition, but Franz Liszt was no picture. And plain white alabaster is so last year. Your mission: give this composer a new look with the texture of your choice, chosen from the fantastic collection at Mayang's free texture library. High res of Franz Liszt is here, and I've even given you a clipping path (you really must master that Pen tool, you know). Should you feel a little cosmetic surgery coming on to fix that ugly mug, that's acceptable too. Hi gang. I'm back after nursing a virus. Still washed out but I thought I would get weaving with the healing brush etc. Here's my effort. I've given the old boy a face lift. He looks a bit more cheerful now. In fact he looks a bit Brahms and Liszt ![]() Wait until you see the make over I've got planned for him, he he ![]() ![]() _________________ BJ - Image Imaginator ![]() |

Re: Week 59: I've got a little Liszt
eventer, I feel for you. My 3 yr. granddaughter tossed all of my files and applications in the trash last Spring. I couldn't retrieve anything. I lost family photos and useful information. It took weeks to get up and running. BobbyJo, Liszt looks fantastic. He should have gotten cosmetic surgery a long time ago. Clever work CWBasset, I like your work. |

Re: Week 59: I've got a little Liszt
A great crop of entries this week - and even if most of you did ignore the instructions, there are some really good results. MJ got in first, with a variety of textures from Mayang. Well chosen and well applied: the cracked paint texture on the face is particularly appealing, it really looks as if it's directly on the figure. The marble on the jacket works well, too, except on the right where it doesn't appear to break over the lapel. Shifting the texture down slightly, with a little extra shading, would have sorted this out: ![]() A classic piece of work from Neal, expertly accomplished. (Memo to self: don't grow hair long and straggly, it makes you look stupid.) The texture matching and shading are superb - and those of you who've attempetd this technique will know just how difficult it is. And the lighting on the incised name is perfect, too. Excellent job! BobbyJo's cosmetic surgery skills come to the fore in his dermal abrasion/facelift job on Liszt's ugly mug. It's amazing what the Healing Tool can do! and the change of expression is just right - no wonder he looks so happy. Great work, BJ. The first Challenge entry from CWBasset is a real cracker. The sheet music is well judged behind him, and the couple of bars of score tie the background and foreground together well. A couple of suggestions: firstly, the shirt jumps out and looks unreal. You have to be really careful when colouring to make sure you don't go over-bright and spoil the effect; always look at it with a critical eye, and be prepared to lower the saturation significantly if it doesn't blend in. And personally, I'd have distorted the music vertically rather than horizontally, so it wrapped more like a ribbon from front to back. But a really good first entry - I particularly like the smirk! When you think about it, I suppose Liszt was the Ozzy Osbourne of his day - brash, showy, talented, with his own reality TV show. OK, I made the last bit up, but John White's entry does put our perceptions of musicians into perpsective. Same comment as for CWBasset: that jacket's far too dazzling, even for Ozzy! And is it just me, or does the lettering look raised, rather than incised? Nice idea, John, but the separate elements need to blend together more! Final entry this week is from maiden, and a real cracker it turned out to be. Fantastic wood wrapping on the figure, with really well chosen textures. As with MJ's entry, above, I'd have shifted the texture behind the right collar slightly; and I agree, the shirt is a little awkward. Seems that shirt's been bothering everyone this week! Entertaining work all round, folks. |
