Contest 35: More shopfitting
Woolworth's usually go to some trouble to make their store fronts look enticing. This branch has a back entrance that's - well - less than inspiring. Can we help them to make the most of their street frontage?

High res is here.

Thought I would try again. Switching from Illustrator to PS will blow your mind sometimes.

In the states Woolworths has really gone down hill and you have to search to find one. This one is in the not so nice neighborhood, but they did try to dress it up a little.

XD @ Glen's. Like the infant skeleton!

But wait, if they can get all their kitchenware from Woolworths, what are they doing stealing it from graves?

Thank you, Becky! To my chagrin, I must admit that I haven't a clue where that photo was taken. One of the pitfalls of online stock photos.

I guess it's a testament to Woolworth's service that their customers are willing to follow them anywhere! At least that's the story that I'm sticking with...

Brian, you've always had no avatar on this site, and I was curious so I did a Google image search on your name. Here's what it came up with. Which one are you?

Wow! I'm famous!! Sort of... Well you raised my own curiosity, and upon Googling my name I found that I'd recently been named "dairy sire analyst" in Plain City, Ohio! Imagine my excitement!

But seriously, I do have a horribly out of date site: www.bmgdesign.com, but other than that I doubt that I'm "searchable". I've been meaning to do something about an avatar, and now I guess I'll have to do something to quell any nasty bovine rumors that may be stirring up...

Curse those South Park ne'er-do-well's!

Actually, I love the show so much that I don't mind the somewhat negative connotation that Mr. Garrison creates. Hmmm... I think I have an idea for that avatar....

In a desperate bid to regain market shares, the store formerly known as Woolworth makes a bold gamble in a bid to start a new fashion trend.

It seemed to make some sort of sense at the time....

Woolworths' desperate attempt to boost flagging sales backfired when they underestimated both the demand for Steve's new book and the lengths people would go to get a copy . . .

Re: Contest 35: More shopfitting
I have to say, I'm really knocked out by the quality of this week's entries. I don't think we've ever had a challenge that's attracted such a uniformly high class of material.

Glen started things off with a great skeleton montage using Poser, which refers back to my comment about his entry last week. The lighting and colour of the skeletons is exactly right, and all the detail is perfect: the hand-in-hand couple with one of them smoking, the one carrying teh box, and the family walking down the pavement. Even a protesting bat skeleton on the roof! Brilliant.

A very nicely improved job from MJ, with a great frill under the Woolworth sign and a rather classy window next to it. The perspective on the wrecked shop next door is slightly off - that doorway needs to recede more perpendicular to the angle of the wall - but some good ideas, helped by meticulous cutting out of the passers-by.

Wonderful work from Brian Garrison takes Woolworths to a new dimension. It's the fact that the angles of view fit so perfectly that really makes the difference here: also, the careful cutting of the ironwork over the entrance really makes the shop front look like it belongs. Yellow traffic lights, eh? Anyone care to hazard a guess as to which country that might be?

BobbyJo has taken us back a few centuries, with a neat Elizabethan twist. The guys crossing the road add a good human element, but - er - aren't they a little big? Can't really see them getting through the doorway! Good subtle texturing on the banner, though.

I'm not a fan of South Park, so David's entry made little sense to me. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Some great perspective work from Tabitha, with awnings that match the scene perfectly and a gorgeous mural on the upper floors. The new shop fronts look fantastic, even if they do appear to be selling giant household objects. I think I'd have squared off the bottom of the columns with the line of the street, though, rather than leaving them at that jaunty angle.

Fine perspective, again, and some very convincing montage work in julie's entry. I really like the aquarium in the second window, and the neon signs look great next door. A combined aquarium and sushi store - wonder why no-one's thought of that before?

It may have been a rush job, Einstein D Kid, but that sign leaning agains the wall is perfectly coloured and textured for the scene. A touch of shadow on the wall behind it would have added to the feel, of course.

And Paul McFadden's closing entry is just perfect. I see you're making good use of those sample images on the CD, Paul, and you've really got the hang of drawing banners. What I like here particularly is the interaction between all the people: they all add something to the sense of drama and chaos, and they all look as if they exist in the same world. You've even given them reflections in the wet road! Excellent work!

And before you all complain at me again, the cover's got a lot better since the version you're looking at there…
