Contest 53: Liven up Live8
Well, yes, it's true - I was lucky enough to get golden circle tickets for Live8 in London last Saturday. What a hoot! Saw some bands I never thought I'd see performing live again, it was a fantastic day. Top of the bill were Pink Floyd, and deservedly so. But those screens behind them kept showing cover art from The Wall, which frankly I found a little dull. Surely, with the wealth of Pink Floyd imagery out there, you can come up with something better? High res is here. ![]() |

The Golden Circle? Isnt that where the celebs were? Has your photoshopping prowess now earned you the right to stand shoulder to shoulder with David Beckham et al? _________________ |

If you've got to re-form then do it in style - the addition of an alarm clock is to wake all the audience up when the 20th guitar solo finishes (ok you sussed me out, I'm not a great fan of this combo - can't see what all the fuss is about myself, now if it were The Who......) Still it was a good day for a v good cause and at least they got a coupla guests up with them. If I'd have waited another second or two to do this they may have put Elvis up on the big screen, ah well, another opportunity lost ! You know I used to complain about people standing in front of me at gigs - it doesn't seem too bad today tho! ![]() _________________ minds are like parachutes - they only work when they are open |

Great work MJ, Dezolat0r and Glen! Live8 was a sell out, and Pink Floyd was a sellout. ![]() |

Re: Contest 53: Liven up Live8
This was a tricky one - that lighting's really hard to work with, as you all found out. MJ produced a great montage, with the image on the screen blended perfectly into the background. I particularly liked the soft edges on the bank of spotlights, and the smoke and lighting effects over the image blend it perfectly into the scene. This is really good work, MJ - and it's time for a title for you! So henceforth, Lighting Luminary it is. And about time, too! I remember buying Dark Side of the Moon when it first came out, so Dezolator's montage has a particular appeal for me. But, at the risk of making comparisons, I don't think your image blends in as well as MJ's; the spotlights are a little hard-edged, and I'm not sure the lighting works quite as well. But it was such a great album I'm prepared to overlook that! I loved Glen's entry - all those animals, plus dozens more Pink Floyd references - the burning man from the cover of Wish You Were Here is particularly appealing. And it's good to see the fat Elvis and the clown elephant getting in on the act. And as you say, with a view like that who cares about what's going on on stage? Sellout it may have been, but Neal's entry is fantastic. The images on the screens say it all, but for me it's Ronald McDonald who really makes this picture. Tucking him behind the guitar really places him in the scene - great stuff, Neal, a really good piece of work. Best perspective of the week award must go to BobbyJo, whose artful brickwork really works. Shame about those couple of bricks on the left, but it's a close thing. Only thing I'm not sure about is the graffiti - is that painted on, or carved into the wall? But a great idea, well executed. Good work, everyone. |

Woo, Woo, Lighting Luminary here!!!! Thanks for the moniker Steve and the kind comments. Painting in the hue/sat mask payed big dividends. _________________ -Never met a PS'er I didn't like- Will Rogers |
