Contest 62: Show me the treasure
Here's another one that relates to a job I had to do - a treasure chest stuffed with financial documents, in my case. I found this great chest, courtesy of PhotoObjects.net, but the problem was that it was closed.

So here's your task: can you open the lid? It's a tricky piece of work from the point of view of perspective. Of course, there's a simple trick that will avoid your having to draw too much of the inside of the chest and the lid - but you'll have to figure that out for yourselves! high res is here.

Re: Contest 62: Show me the treasure
all this waiting was making Keith nervous. The boys from the dig hadn't turned up, his mobile was running low, Todd wouldn't take his 3D glasses off and now the kittens wanted their milk. And to cap it all they were all stranded on a white background.....

(all this babble just to give a clue as to how I opened the chest !)(chose the simpler trick for the small one - oops, now there's a give away !) (and the latches on the lid were MEANT to be chopped in half (not!!))

Hi all,

I've just joined. Steve Chaplin, thank you so much for writing this book. I've been using photoshop for a while but last time I actually knew what I was doing was with photoshop 3.0... never bothered learning new techniques. So this is quite a catch up course. Thanks!

Had a stab at the treasure chese. Took way to long. :-( about 4 hours!!! :-( Hope it uploads ok. I really struggled with the reflections on the floor... I gave up in the end and just left what I had, as I have to do some work.

MJ, Glan and Cara, those pickies are brilliant. I've been messing around with this for a couple of hours and like Steve says the perspective is tricky but you have given me some ideas. Now what shall I use as treasue ? Make up or red wine I think

I searched in the roof of the castle, found the trunk, alas no documents, but something better...the long lost gold

Hi Kenny,

The picture dimensions have been altered to 2.2 X 2 ins, 72ppi. I suspect that you did this when trying to keep the file below 100K. Your actual file size is far lower at 44K.

I suggest that you start with a picture the size that you want and then use the save for web option. Reduce the jpeg quality until the file size displayed below the picture is just under 100K.

Regards rufus
