Steve, this was really cool. Thanks for the tips. Yes the car needs tweaking in the water versions of my montages and yes it was tilted in the lava thing.

I'll be back this week, you can bet on that!

Pierre

Gosh, are kids in the Philippines really that small?

Well, ya know...they don't eat as well there!

Wait...scratch that smiley...I didn't mean to imply that I'm laughing at malnourished children.

Thanks again, Steve. This challenge was fun. Have the enjoyment is searching for pictures to use. When I found the picture of the kids swimming in the sinkhole, I couldn't stop laughing.

Thanks for the comments Steve... was a bit confused about the glass not being cracked.... cuz I did crack the glass although some of the detailing may have been lost when I reduced the size of the pic... think it kinda blurred it a bit... oh well

As for the comic effect... that is done entirely in Photoshop using only Photoshop's own Filters no 3rd party plugins were used (I find them more trouble than they're worth lol) That said... there's a lot more to it than just Filters.... a lot of cutting, pasting, copying snapshots...and a lot of work that's too much to mention but the idea was to make it work using only Photoshop alone.

Again.. thankyou for your expert opinion Steve..always encourages me to keep on tryin harder to improve... much appreciated

Dalton

Thanks for the great critique Steve. Yes it did take a long time, reconstructing all the buildings after removing the lamp posts and the fence was a real pain. But i reckon it was worth it for the reveiw you gave it

But steve you didnt mention my second entry!!!

"... with a truly fantastic ivy effect covering the front of the buildings. Do you have a brush for this? Or was it placed on piece by piece?"

I'm glad you liked my images, Steve!

Here's a desciption of what I did to create the ivy:

First I used the clone stamp on a new layer to create a vertical bar of ivy from top to bottom where the right hand lamp post is. I cloned the ivy from both lamp post baskets to accomplish this.

To get the scale right for the distant ivy I used the vanishing point filter to create a horizontal band of the ivy I previously had created.

After that it was easy to copy the parts of the horizontal band in a vertical fashion (in order to maintain the scale factor) and cover the entire layer.

The third step was to make rough (marquee tool) copies of that layer onto new layers, one for each building and one for the fence.

The last step was straightforward using layer masks with different size brushes set at different opacity and just painting away until if looked about right. And a little of dodge and burn, of course.

I'm glad you liked my images, Steve and I have posted how I did this on the Friday Challenge page for all to see.

In my opinion it would be interesting to learn from others how they created their imagesand I believe it would be worthwhile if you could stimulate this. I know you do from time to time but maybe you could stress this point a little bit more in the future.
