Sorry this is so lame.
Not much time this week.

Hey Deborah, I didn't see yours until I was done.

Re: Contest 115: Welcome home
Excellent work all round this week - with a lot of true inspiration.

First out of the departure lounge was GKB with an absolutely top-notch gag: naturally, the daleks would struggle with those stairs, but it takes a leap of imagination to think of it. Those daleks look 3D modelled to me, is that right? Did you make them your self? Love the one trying to climb the stairs at the bottom, and the bags are a great addition. Nice work!

Here's meguyer back - you can tell he's been in England, all that rain has made him shrink. A good selection of photographers, with some very neatly cut out tripods. And the second entry makes a couple of important fixes, including restoring him to his full size.

Good angles from 2bfree, with an intelligent piece of body language from the two leaders. Something a little dodgy about Bush's right foot, but we'll put that down to jet lag, or deep vein thrombosis, or whatever's a fashionable aviation ailment these days.

A very cute reversal from tank172, who has grafted the cockpit of another plane onto this one. The real skill here, of course, was in removing the steps and all the runway traffic: a tough job, ably realised. The new wing fits well!

Excellent relocation from Sophie, who has moved our plane to the Scottish highlands, with Gordon Brown being ignored by a flock of sheep. Good leg angles there, and a great sense of isolation. Nice work - and a good addition in the second entry.

A wonderful entry from Deborah Morley, who has recreated a scene from Mars Attacks perfectly - complete with green glowing skeleton. Many great touches: the tiny aliens in all the windows, the added logo on the plane, the two aliens in conversation at the top of the steps. And look how the handrail is refracted through the glass helmet of the front alien: now that's what I call class!

As GKB so rightly pointed out: Shadows, James, shadows! Great as it is to see Popeye, Olive Oyl and Bluto making a rare reappearance, I do feel that even as two-dimensional characters they should intercept the light in some way. A great arrangement, though, with well judged scale. Ah, there we go: the second entry fixes it! And a most entertaining third entry.

Good to see Ben Mills has been making use of the images on the CD: the man sitting on the steps is a great touch, although there's a worry that I might topple on him at any moment. What a welcome home reception!

I like the way Bush's foot is just slipping off the step in dave.cox's entry, with Mrs B nestled neatly in the doorway. A minimal reception, perhaps, but isn't his hand holding the rail well!

An excellent snowy scene from Wayne, with a cold Macca slipping almost unnoticed from the gangway. As to your question about editing posts: the simplest way is to post again, then delete the second post, and edit the first so that the url of the image points to the new one.

Very fine work from michael sinclair, who has Richard Branson leaping into a tastefully created EasyJet lifeboat. A great effect: but I'd question the placement of Branson's shadow, which seems a little too high (and shouldn't it be touching his left foot?).

A fantastic set of travellers from vibeke, whose densely populated scene is full of life and energy. Great tonal matching, a very convincing scene altogether.

There's something a little bizarre about Eggbox's entry: is it just that the eggs are all too saturated? Or not enough shadows? It leaves me wondering how that ovoid family manages to slip down the steps without scrambling, though.

A really funny, topical entry from Dek_101, who has moved the action indoors (love the reflections on the window). For those who don't recognise the protagonists: that's croc wrestler Steve Irwin outside, who was fatally stabbed by a stingray a couple of weeks ago; in the departure lounge we see BBC presenter Richard Hammond, who crashed his 300mph jet car last week and was close to death - saved, in part, due to his being rescued by an air ambulance. Which explains the whole joke. Excellent work!

Always good to see a new member posting, and Simon Rudd has given us a great first entry: The Queen standing near the top on a tastefully drawn red carpet (note the highlight on each step, a nice touch). Took me a minute to recognize those things waving from the bucket as balloons - a lot more shading needed here, Simon, perhaps a highlight or two to make them more three dimensional. We look forward to more of your work - welcome to the forum!

A fantastic piece of impressionism from Johanna: I've rarely seen the Art History brush used to such good effect. Pure Degas! Although what the plane's doing in a cornfield is anyone's guess.

It's those skeletons again... and Tom's flight from hell (complete with custom tailplane) makes good use of them. Changing the orange to red is a nice touch!

Writing this from a hotel room in Cologne. I just love WiFi!

Thanks Steve,
Yes Cinema 4D to the rescue. I needed to have various poses to make it all work. But I did bring the Daleks into Photoshop for the metallic effects and for the final compositing with shadows. The handbag was done in Cinema but 'Benidorm' came courtesy of Photoshop.

Thanks, Steve! I have been working on a revision to my post...that door on my airplane looks horrible! But I haven't had the time to finish. The vanishing point filter was primarily used with this week's post.

Oh, by the way, Wacom should know that I would never had spent $200 for a "mouse pad" if I didn't read your praise on the benifits of tablets in your book. I never had one before picking up HTCIP. And truthfully, I probably never would have got one! Now, it feels sort of weird and foreign whenever I use another computer without a tablet.

dek_101's entry is a ripper. The hamster in the departure lounge.

"Is it just that the eggs are all too saturated?" They have just returned from their summer holiday in Egeland, North Dakota!
