Challenge 875: On the bridge
We're back in the La Rochelle Maritime Museum again, only this week we're on the bridge of a meteorological exploration vessel.

I was intrigued to see that, despite the array of technology that surrounds modern shipping, they still have a brass control switch (technical term needed, please) and, moreover, a wooden steering wheel (ditto) that looks unchanged since the 16th century.

Can you put this vessel to sea? Sorry about the wide angle of the shot, it wasn't a very big bridge.

High res is here.

As a man who apparently knows a bit about everything I am pretty sure that the brass control is called the ship's telegraph.

Also known as the Engine Order Telegraph, or Chadburn. See Wikipedia.

Quite unable to to think of anything original for this, on the face of it, rather prosaic challenge. Must be getting old ..........

Popeye and Olive Oyl look good. But where's the spinach?
Loyd, the lighting from the lightning storm is fabulous.

Thanks Anna and vibeke...

Skull Island is awesome Anna, there is a lot to like!

Mariner, I have no idea, but if I were going to make a 'WAG' I would say some sort of vent.

Thank you Loyd

Michael, regarding the vent thing - I wonder how many times the captain hit his head on it?

I am almost certain that it's definitely an oojamaflip or a whatchamacallit.

On the other I hand, I suppose it could just be be a thingamajig?
