Challenge 918: Summer holiday
At the risk of accidentally invoking the spirit of Cliff Richard, I'm off on my summer holiday for two weeks from today. I'm going to France, as usual, and hope to indulge in some of my favourite pursuits including riding quad bikes.

Here I am on a quad a couple of years ago, riding around a sand dune. But perhaps I could be somewhere more exotic?

High res is here.

NOTE: This one will have to last you three weeks - I'm back on the 14th August and will write it up then. In the meantime, if you get Photoshop withdrawal then feel free to revisit any earlier Friday Challenges.

Have a good holiday Steve. My son got caught in the tunnel chaos driving to France last weekend and was there in line for twelve hours. I hope you have much better luck!

Is India exotic enough for you Steve?

I was sent this recently by an Indian friend I worked with there. The logo is his making.

Seems you got the short straw picking the sexiest quad!

In search of exotic places to satisfy his love of quad biking Steve visits China!

Re: Challenge 918: Summer holiday
I haven't found the 'perfect' exotic spot yet... lot's of time to look around.

I did give you a parrot and a somewhat tropical tree...

The first two were the work of minutes. Once you've cut out and cleaned up Steve on the bike it's just a matter of finding somewhere to put him.

The third on the other hand was hard. I had to draw the red machine and it's reflection from scratch and then create a reflection of the underside of the bike from bits and pieces. The foreground women and girl are all pasted from elsewhere so I had to create reflections for them as well. Not especially challenging ...... but fiddly.

Michael, surprising to see you one of the first off the blocks. Nicely done too!

To be picky, I should point out that the sun on Steve is the opposite direction to his shadow, but his shadow is absolutely consistent with the scene. Not really anything you can do about that unless you flip him. That is usually very undesirable but I did it twice here because the helmet hides things like hair parting and he is small enough for the tinier details, that might look wrong in a flip, not to show. But I am being really picky here. It's a lovely clean Mariner image!

Thank you David. Yes, I knew that but decided to let it go, as filipping the bike causes big problems, such as having to find a new background to fit him in. You need sharp eyes to spot that Steve's shadow is wrong, so many people wouldn't notice. I think this is a rather sloppy picture, not up to my usual standards. I just wanted to get it out of the way so I can get on with my other FC entries which involve revamping one or more of the old pictures from years ago.

These are fun Loyd. I particularly like the first where he appears from behind the sand bank.

Re: Challenge 918: Summer holiday
Steve tries to convince Carol that he can handle a quad properly, before embarking on his expedition to exotic places.

And I think that's quite enough mocking the master for one challenge so at this point I shall retire gracefully!

Not sure if this is exotic, but it is about as far from London as you can go. Golden Bay, top of the South Island, New Zealand. 40°30'12.672" S 172°40'47.718" E
Wharaiki Beach, Golden Bay NZ
