Re: Challenge 955: The Howling

I made the flying crane nearly five years ago and have waited all this time for an opportunity to use it... finally.

And that's it for me... sorry about so many.

I've only just realised they're called mudskippers. Too late to change it now; they will have to stay as mud flappers.

It's difficult to picture them in a romantic type setting, Loyd, but I think you've nailed with the moon and flying crane.

Good work everybody.

Hugely entertaining Loyd--may the thunderstorms and tornados continue

Just returned from Greece so done in a terrible rather unfinished rush.

I wanted to get away from all the singing ..............

Re: Challenge 955: Mud skippers
First to promote the mud skippers this week was lwc, with a glorious cinematic animation – beautifully done, it really brings those animals to life. I like the extra skippers in the second entry, but keep wishing that hand would eventually manage to pick one up. An evocative change of scale in the third entry, with the tiny human skeletons giving the skippers a far more threatening appearance. Moving the horizon line right down is a clever way to enhance the sense of their size. Reminds me of Dune. I like the forest setting in the fourth entry, and the unexpected appearance of Lara Croft in the fifth entry. The teeth in the sixth entry are really quite scary, and the dribbling seventh entry verges on the disgusting (but in a good way, you understand). I think Gordon would appreciate the infrared-style ninth entry, and the back-and-forth movement works well. A fitting finale in the tenth entry, and congratulations on being the first Forum member ever to make entries to a single Challenge in double figures!

It’s full-on disco time for Josephine Harvatt, with fluorescent mud skippers in a setting that would put Strictly to shame. Splendidly decorated beasties!

A classical opera from Ant Snell, with the skippers as a pair of 18th century soloists. I like the fact that they still have tails. Great poses, too, which accentuate the sense of sound.

Frank thinks the whole panel of Strictly judges would reject the skippers – well, I suppose we have yet to hear them sing. I like how small they are in the scene, and the subtlety of the reflection.

A glitzy setting from tooquilos, with loads of excitement around them. But shouldn’t those coloured lights throw some colour onto the skippers? And not sure about the spotlight’s appearance over the right hand one. Good motion in the animated version – i like the cutaway to the cheering crowd.

I see michael sinclair has gone full baroque, with a gold plated fountain in front of a truly over-the-top chateau. Remarkable, quite unexpected and rather fun. I like this one.

I enjoyed Mariner's take on Fairy Tale of New York, although for some reason that pair of mudskippers bring Gloria Gaynor to mind more than Shane MacGowan. Very entertaining, good attention to detail.

I laughed out loud at DavidMac's “rushed” entry – a real imaginative leap. Hugely enjoyable!

Thanks Steve. Gloria Gaynor? Never gave her a thought. Did she survive? Can't stand her singing. No, I was thinking of Leila Lawton.

Thank Steve- they haven't got the red buzzer yet and I see the judges are standing.

Re: Challenge 955: Mud skippers
Thanks Steve, I was overwhelmed with ideas for this fun starting image and had to force myself to stop... truly a limitless challenge.

Thanks Steve. It was fun to do and an idea I could fit in the limited time left.
