Some stunning images this week.

I'm afraid the ships beat me down this week, plus I spent too much time posing dolls. I would love to have filled in the spaces but I'm out of time.

Great work from everyone in my opinion. Impressive work from David Mac on his panorama - in short many very impressive entries.
Here's a last minute entry simply to avoid "use it or lose it". Haven't done an ani in quite awhile.

Stroke of brilliance merging the two images, David - flawless.
I'm pleased you managed a video. I've missed them. It's excellent.

Re: Challenge 972: The automated street
First to populate the street this week was Ben Boardman, with a glorious array of automata, from the ancient to the contemporary. Brilliantly arranged around the cafe tables, with a composition that leads you into the scene. Just one point: shearing a figure into perspective to match the background rarely works. Better to have the robot behind the window, and undistorted:

A packed second entry, with a glorious cast of characters meandering down the street. There’s a lot to look at here, and a very fine sense of depth. Why is that teddy bear pulling its own head off?

An array of working girls from Frank, neatly positioned in doorways and alcoves. The woman nearest us on the left has her leg perfectly perched against the lamp post. I like the new sky, and the modified lighting. No red lights in the windows, though? A fine array of robots in the second entry, with their robot trays. I like the one with the fork ready to dig in. Glad you managed an animated version, with its cunningly moving robots and altered shop names. The flying car’s fog is brilliant.

It's time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights… lwc has given us a Muppet-themed street, the surrealism enhanced by a nightmarish distortion. Splendid. Touch of defringe needed on Beaker and Dr Bunsen, perhaps? The whole cast of characters in the second entry rather obscures the background, but the animation is cute. I enjoyed the third entry, with the bathroom cleaner zipping down the street; the slight movement of the onlookers adds greatly to the realism of the scene. Seriously weird stuff in the Minions entry. I like the blinking eyes. And so good to see the Metropolis entry: Fritz Lang would be delighted his legacy still resonates. As indeed would his wife Thea von Harbou, who wrote the book.

Metro gnomes! Ha! So, DavidMac, where did you find these remarkably cute robots? I assume you’ve added the metronomes to their heads. Highly entertaining, and not a duplicate in sight. Excellent. I like the watery reflections. Astonishing work in the second entry, not only populating the streets with an outstanding collection of automata, but performing the almost impossible task of joining the two streets. This involved not just extending the Galerie de la Place Blanche, but matching the perspectives and lighting of the two scenes. And so much detail! Performers right into the distance, and even new street names. And, of course, removing the cafe tables. Formidable, Monsieur Mac.

Moulin Rouge time for tooquilos, with what looks like a breakdancing robot in front of a cunningly adapted original poster. Plenty of robotic action in the animated version, with those on stage being particularly impressive – I like how they’re slightly out of sync with each other. And I enjoyed the Lady Marmalade soundtrack (my band does a great version of this song).

A beautiful toying with scale from Mariner, with Alice and the White Rabbit lost in an alternate Wonderland. Of course the real difficulty here must have been turning night into day: the windows are impressive, as are the switched-off lamp posts. Good restraint on the saturation of Alice’s dress! Excellent.

I enjoyed dwindt's array of automata, with its artfully posed models (and the Tin Man on the motorbike is especially good). What’s that new figure in the window of the green Galerie?

Thanks Steve. Well done everyone.

The figure in the window of the green Galerie is a mermaid. That's the attraction drawing the cats. I wanted to to have more cats around the shop but time ran out.

Thanks Steve .... and to think I nearly passed on this one.

I loved doing Metro Gnomes because it was so sublimely stupid!

Joining the backgrounds was a kind of self challenge, just to see if I could. Matching all the automata to the museums differently coloured lighting in different places was also quite challenging but, of course, my thing. Finding them was tricky too until I hit on the idea of searching for auction catalogues and there they were, and often from multiple angles!

Thank you Steve, I really enjoyed this one. Thank you for the tip, I see what you mean. I guess I hid the WTF on the Robovac a bit to well but I guess Teddy was also wondering about all the wierdos.
