Challenge 976: Doctor Octopus
GKB discovered this ceramic octopus in the French town of Dinan, his next stop after La Rochelle.

I think this creature needs to be liberated and put back in the sea. Or wherever else you think it belongs.

High res is here.

Re: Challenge 976: Doctor Octopus
Well now this is going to call for either some serious ingenuity or some very hard work for the animators. Are you going to find a cheat, or are you going to bite the bullet and separate all those tentacles and restore all the bits they cover?

I shall probably sit this one out as I am busy trying to finish my mega image for Ingrid by the end of next week before we go away the week after. It's increased in size to 11400*7850 pixels (14GB on disk) and currently stands at just under a thousand layers ... probably about a hundred more to go. Looking forward to finishing .............

Looks like you could do with six extra hands, David… just in case that gives anyone ideas for this week…

Re: Challenge 976: Doctor Octopus
In Norse mythology the Kraken was a fearsome giant octopus that inhabited the ocean between Norway and Iceland. It was large enough to attack and destroy large sailing ships devouring the crew in the process.

Greek mythology had a similar creature called the Cetus which was reputed to be a giant sea serpent. Perseus slew the Cetus when it arrived to devour Andromeda when she had been chained to a rock by the sea.

This is one of those 'limitless' challenges where I will just have to force myself to quit making them...

Nice work so far, but remember Loyd that a maximum of 400 entries per challange is in operation.

This cute "little" critter answers to the name Monster or Monty for short.

I think I'm safe... I have finished four more and can't decide whether to post them all or drag it out over several days...

Monty appears to be enjoying himself...

EDIT: Increased quantity from three to four.

Re: Challenge 976: Doctor Octopus
Morning Ben ....... well it is here .....

I actually preferred the darker version of your mermaid. It felt more deeply immersed. Either way both are lovely.

The kitchen image had me a bit perplexed. My first reaction was that he was in the tank and that you that you hadn't managed to place him there very well. No blue tint and no reflections over him.

It took me a moment to realise that this was quite intentional and much wittier and that he is outside the tank trying to escape his fate on the grill plate!

The confusion comes from the eyes which are facing outwards. Somehow I feel we should be seeing the back of his head to really get the message. However am I sure your intention is that he is looking back to spot pursuers. It's a great idea!

But it raises a big question: How do you get something like an octopus with circular symmetry to look back over his shoulder?

I wish I knew ..........

Thank you for the feedback David, I wish it was me being wittier. But the suckers would be on the wrong side. There was a blue tint & reflection but obviously not strong enough - I have now increased strength.

Maybe it's my monitor settings Ben, but I liked the second mermaid best... I could more clearly make out the details.
