Ted, my condolences. I'll get to the leg eventually (note: no filters were harmed or used in the creation of this image) ![]() _________________ most of the lack of sunshine in our lives is caused by us standing in our own shadow |

Pauline, brilliant, brilliant, you have found the point to the challenge! Glen, I like very many his composition. Neal, very good the idea. I thought to put the dummy in a museum, jejejeje, will have to look for another idea. It did it very well! ![]() ![]() |

Re: Contest 139: Works of art
I've been studying the anatomy of this model for some time now (purely for artistic reasons you understand) particularly in the region of the left patella. In my humble opinion and with a current First Aid Certificate firmly in my pocket I believe the back of the lady's left knee is draped over the right knee so what you are seeing is her left thigh and her right calf and foot with her left foot obscured. Because her shoe is covered by the sheeting it is not possible to confirm we can see her big toe. Just like a reef knot. Its left over right! OK Nurse I'm ready for my injections now!!! Ted PS Wayne how did you get that effect? |

Don't know how Wayne got to his final effect but... there's more than one way to skin a cat (no offence Raffy) Think I can remember how I got there in the end ![]() _________________ minds are like parachutes - they only work when they are open |

Re: Contest 139: Works of art
The expression "skin a cat" is in reference to CatFISH, Glen, not the mamals. lol _________________ "I haven't failed.... I've found 10,000 ways that don't work!" Thomas Edison |

Re: Contest 139: Works of art
As Glen says, there's more than one way to skin a cat... or a catfish Dirtdoctor ![]() You need to finish up with three active layers:- Top layer is a black outline layer Middle layer is a dots layer Bottom layer is a flattened colours layer 1. Top outline layer Duplicate b/ground layer (b/ground copy) Desaturate the b/ground copy layer (Image >adjust >desaturate) Duplicate the b/ground copy layer (b/ground copy 2) Invert the b/ground copy 2 layer (Image >adjustments>invert) Set the b/ground copy 2 layer to 'colour dodge' On b/ground copy 2 layer, Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Play with the slider until you get a 'line drawing' effect (should be 1 - 3 pixel radius approx) Merge down the b/ground copy 2 and b/ground copy layers Increase the contrast of the outlines (Image > adjustments > brightness/contrast) somewhere between + 60 - + 80 on the contrast slider should be OK Change the blend mode on this layer to 'Multiply' Change the name of the layer to 'outline' switch layer off for the time being 2. Dots layer Duplicate the b/ground layer again (b/ground copy 2) Right-click on b/ground copy 2 in Layers palette. Choose 'Duplicate layer in pop-up menu. In 'Duplicate Layer' dialog box, choose 'New' as the destination. This creates a new document out of the layer. Change the mode of the document to Grayscale ( Image > Mode > Grayscale) Then change the mode again to Bitmap (Image > Mode > Bitmap) In the 'Bitmap' dialog box, choose 'Half-tone screen' as the method. Click on OK. In the 'Half-tone screen' dialog box, choose 'Round' as the shape for the dots. Play around with the frequency and angle to see what works best. (I chose frequency 15, angle 45) Change the mode back to Grayscale (Image > Mode > Grayscale) In the 'Grayscale' dialog box, click on OK to accept 'Size ratio 1' Right-click on the b/ground layer in the layers palette. Choose 'Duplicate Layer' from the pop-up menu. In 'Duplicate Layer' dialog box, choose as the destination the name of your original document. ( The name will be there under 'destination' as long as you've left the original document open) Activate the original document and you will find you have a new 'dots' layer (it will be called 'background copy' Set the blend mode of this dots layer to 'overlay' and reduce the opacity to around 40 - 50 % Re-name this layer 'dots' Switch off the dots layer for the time being. 3. Increase Saturation and flatten colours You now have 2 layers visible (b/ground and b/ground copy 2) Switch off the b/ground layer. On the b/ground copy 2 layer increase Saturation ( Image > Adjustments > Saturation) Up it to around + 50 - +70. You might want to alter the Hue a bit at the same time. Then flatten out the colours (Filter > Noise > Median) (About 8 pixels should do. Switch on the 'outline' and 'dots' layers again. If necessary, re-order the layers. You should have the 'outline' layer on top, the 'dots' layer in the middle and the 'colour' layer on the bottom. Phew! That's it. Looks like it should be in the tutorials section! Let me know if it works, Ted. I'll be happy to clarify anything if need be. Oh, by the way, the thought bubbles and text were added in Illustrator Wayne |

Re: Contest 139: Works of art
'take the mannequin image and make it look like a painting' said Steve and what a collection of different styles and techniques that simple little request has spawned. Amazing work from everyone. Wayne, I had often thought of having a go at the Roy Liechtenstein technique now I don't have to think about how to do it. Very good. |
