Contest 40: Single lens reflection
Here's one that's going in the next edition - I thought you might like to have a crack at it first. On the face of it, this is a simple job: reflect the camera to make it look like it's standing on a shiny surface. But, as you'll discover, it's not quite that simple…

High res is here.

This is hard. I tweaked my image a little, but I'm still not happy with it. I can make a career out of this project.

If we can do it better than you, does our version get into the book

*baleeted cos I'm stupid*

This is indeed tricky. There's something wrong with mine, but I just can't get my finger on it.

I expect Steve is going to be reading this posts and cackling evilly at our misfortune later on in the week

Re: Contest 40: Single lens reflection
Yep, definately something screwed up about mine. The shutter portion seems too distorted, plus the overall reflection seems to be coming off at the wrong angle

Anyway, here it is:

Wow, this was hard. I spent a long time on this and still am not satisfied. I drew lines for parallels, I did ray-tracings in my head, and I even totally cheated by taking a picture of my P&S camera on a shiny surface. But I think I could spend a lifetime working with this image - or maybe just until the third edition comes out

Re: Contest 40: Single lens reflection
Hi all

Well this one is giving me a lot of trouble. Like Steve said it's not easy. I've messed around with all sorts of things. I know the reflection should show the underside of the camera but I'm at a loss as to how to alter the original image convincingly. As for getting the shape of the reflection right that is another story that is involving lots of colourful languge I am very intrigued to know how this one is best done

Hmmm....Steve said this one is going to be in the next edition. It would be nice if it were an example of the new perspective tools in CS2. "And in previous versions of Photoshop this would have been a very difficult job, but in CS2 you can reflect the image in a few easy steps"

Well, I can dream

Re: Contest 40: Single lens reflection
Silly me, I didn't read the "hot tip" and wasted lots of time struggling with the camera reflection before I read Steve's note to me,
Yours sincerely,
