I broke my tailbone on Fri and still can't sit up for long enough to play with PS. (Just thought I would throw that in since I have a valid excuse other than faintheartedness.)

Now that just sounds a tad painful!
I have faintheartedness and a total garden make-over to keep me busy. Its been a while since I have had the chance to sit down and play with PS, maybe I may have a crack at wrecking a church tonight!

Not that it really matters, but is that a one way street?

Re: Contest 41: Ecclesiastical entropy
Neal was first off the blocks this week, and frankly it proved to be an entry that was hard to follow. There's so much detail here I hardly know where to start, so let me point out some of the less obvious stuff: the way the tree's been cloned in behind the chewed-away column on the right; the wall cloned behind the frontmost column; the texture and shading on the internal structure of the columns; the graffiti on the low side wall; the views through the broken walls to the destruction inside… there's so much here, it's really overwhelming.

Fantastic, Neal, this really is one of the best contributions ever. In fact it's so good I'm hereby inaugurating the award of Master Manipulator, which will henceforth be attached to your name. (Fanfare of trumpets.)

Some neat minimalism from MJ this week. The missing corner piece is obvious straight away (although I'd have shown something of the inside of the wall there), but it takes a while before you spot where it's gone: fallen on the car in the street below. Nice touch.

BobbyJo, eough already! Your entries are filling up my storage allocation! But it's a fantastic job: the flames and smoke on the front of the building are really convincing (Eye Candy?), but what I really like is that jet of flame coming from the side window, which is at just the right angle. Great scorch marks, and a well cloned tree behind that column. Best of all, for me, is the tumbling masonry and sign at the bottom, which gives the piece a real sense of movement. Terrific work!

An artful graffiti artist by Becky, with good perspective and shading. The expressions on the artist and the mayor are fantastic - are they original? Were they a single photograph? The fact that the mayor of London is a man is, of course, irrelevant.

Plenty of white smoke - looks like those vent holes were designed for the purpose - in Glen's restrained entry. And there he is, leaning out of the top window. Did you track down a photo of Ratzinger? Or is that a different Pope?

Not entirely sure what sort of point Jeff Scranton is making this week. Is that the spire of a neighbouring church? Or the same one, that's fallen off the top? And is the lightning a hidden message? The break-off of the masonry's a bit too neat for my taste. more crumbling!

Of all the ways of destroying the church, I never thought of acid rain. uk2usadaz has given us a moody, atmospheric entry with a real sense of drama and foreboding to it. (Have I just said the same thing four times?) I really like the stunted tree in the foreground, the shading and the overall texture and lighting on this one. Inspired.

Great entries, folks.

"Point" well taken Steve. I wish I'd gotten my idea sooner. The spire is from the same church. Question: Is there a connection between this edifice and Jack the Ripper? His name kept popping up in my googling.

Yes they're from the same photo, and I totally forgot about Ken Livingstone. She's the mayor of the local church committee, yes that's right.... *scarpers*
