You might want to re-think this camp-out Ant...

Re: Challenge 1033: Ant's camper
Some great ideas everyone, food for thought on an actual finish. I love that paint job Anna but I suspect it might cost more than the van. I liked the open door, Gordon, I’ll have to post a photo of the actual interior. I’ll have to keep an eye out for that Pub stopover David. That looks fun Loyd. Frank I have been thinking about returning to Canada for a holiday for a few years, I used to live there as a kid, Hansom chap in the roof tent.
I wasn’t going to enter this week but I had a trip out to La-Rochelle and who should I bump into? Thanks for the hand with the art work SC.

Thanks for the smile Ant.

In your hands Ant's really getting about Loyd.

Ant, I think Loyd has captured what's in store ( in the rethink image above) for your return trip to Canada. Bring your snowsuit!

Sorry Ant and Goose, it was the only thing I could think of. No harm intended.

Re: Challenge 1033: Ant's camper
First to go camping this week was lwc, with a rather charming country setting. I like the decals, and the fact that they go on the back of the chairs as well. You are of course forgiven for the moose entry, especially since you took the trouble to make it visible through the side window. (Side point: glad you agree about putting foliage in front of an object to place it in the scene. It’s one of my favourite tricks.) I like the safari entry, although that vampire tiger could really do with a shadow. (Or is that reflections?) I enjoyed the polar entry, but feel I do have to point out that polar bears and penguins are, literally, poles apart. No such geographical qualms when it comes to the scifi entry though: love the adaptation of the van, and that spinning planet looks terrifying.

An expensive paint job from tooquilos, complete with underbody lighting. I see the geese, including in the sky, and have to assume there are ants in there somewhere! The animated version really brings it to life – especially the pulsating light underneath.

A desert at sunset from Ben Boardman, with the warm tones subtly affecting the van. I like the ant/goose illustration, and the subtle reprise on the rear doors. Not sure those mountain viewers accurately reflect Mr & Mrs Ant though.

An exotic setting from GKB, who has parked the van (rather inconsiderately, I must say) on a tropical beach. I like the decoration, even more when the door is opened: very neatly slid to the side, the slightly translucent window is perfect. Just a couple of points: since the size of the driver’s cab is clearly indicated by the window, there’s clearly no room inside the door for those grey seats. And, ahem, the horizon does give a clear indication of the vanishing point… I do like the sandcastle, but concerned about the health of the man who hasn’t moved during the time it took to build it.

Good to see a chunk of DavidMac's childhood, how repurposed. A splendid new sign, realised with great skill and imagination, and a very interesting choice of typography. My only real issue is with the size of the van: imagine someone standing in the doorway, then move him out to stand by the van:

A truly haunting giant ant scene, with splendid shadows. Again, though, there seems to be a scale mismatch: if the ant in front of the van is somewhat over a metre tall, surely the one in the foreground should be very much larger? I would demonstrate but (a) I think you can see what I mean and (b) there’s no way I’m going to spend my Friday morning cutting out that ant.

A finely-tuned camping scene from Frank that’s packed full of detail: the three bears (and not a bowl of porridge in sight), the picnic table and chairs, the imaginative decoration – and, of course, the ladder (with its shadow) leading up to where Ant is hiding in the roof tent. Immaculate, Frank, and beautifully realised.

Very glad to see Ant Snell entering his own Challenge, and that’s a great image – even though my head is, er, rather too large for the body. That’s a lot of different paints when I’m only painting in black! But I do appreciate all the reflections. Nice work. Oh – and thanks for the umbrella.

A very different take on the ant and goose issue from Mariner… there’s something rather disturbing about this one! I like how you’ve used Ant’s cubist avatar, although it does look rather odd when taken out of context. An interesting new paint job, with a very matt finish. I like the tracks in the snow.

I’ve searched michael sinclair’s entry without success for a sign of an ant, but to no avail. That goose is working very hard without getting anywhere. Nicely animated, though.

Excellent work this week. Thanks, Ant, for the starting image, and happy travels.

Thank you Steve, thats 1,142 feet high Uluru (Ayers Rock) in the background. I took the shot in 2009. Although those are actual tourists, its for moments like these that created the remove tool! I got so involved with the van, I didn't see the background.

Ant, I travelled around Australia in a similar type van in 1987, I wish you the enjoyment it bought us.

Given my professional background it is puzzling (and somewhat embarrassing) that my errors are so consistently often errors of scale. The minute you point it out the van error is glaring!

I could wriggle on the hook and suggest that ants come in different sizes .......... but I don't think you'd be very convinced. Come to think of it, neither am I.

Thank you Ant for a fun challenge. I would love to see some photographs of the interior in the Straight Photography section.
